Gainey quits as Canadiens’ GM

I know this is not big news for anybody outside of Montreal, so if you are not interested, then click here for a scuba diving cat… But for the rest of us, this is big news!!! Bob Gainey has finally resigned as General Manager of the Canadiens. Did he jump? Was he pushed? Who knows, but he stays on as an ‘advisor for new GM Pierre Gauthier. NHL draft: Canadiens first selection, eighth overall, in 1973 amateur draft.
Rookie season 1973-74: Had three goals, seven assists in 66 games.
Won five Stanley Cups with Canadiens: 1976, ’77, ’78, ’79, ’86.
Won 1979 Conn Smythe Trophy as playoffs’ most valuable player.
Won Frank Selke Trophy as NHL’s top defensive forward, 1978, ’79, ’80, ’81.
Played in four all-star games: 1977, ’78, ’80, ’81.
Named Canadiens captain for 1981-82 season, through retirement in 1989.
Career total 1,342 games, 264 goals, 310 assists (regular season and playoffs).
Named head coach, Minnesota North Stars, 1990.
Minnesota/Dallas Stars head coach and GM, 1992-96.
Assistant GM, Team Canada, 1996 World Cup
Co-GM, Team Canada, 1998 Olympic winter Games.
Dallas Stars GM 1996-2002, won Stanley Cup 1999.
